King's Leadership Phoenix Academy (KLPA) is part of the Great Schools Trust (GST), a company limited by guarantee.
The GST members and board of trustees are the proprietors of the trust and set the overarching vision and strategy for all of the GST academies. Trustees’ main responsibilities are the three core governance functions:
In order to discharge these duties successfully the board of trustees has delegated some of these responsibilities to executive leaders and local academy councils (LACs) (see the Scheme of Delegation for more information).
King's Phoenix, formed its own committee in September 2022, following the appointment of Mrs Shona Stronach as Chair of Governors. Since then work has gone into recruiting knowledgable and skillful governors from the local community to support the school in becoming the best it can be. The LAC is currently seeking two parents to further strengthen the schools governance arrangements.
The LAC has delegated oversight for curriculum and standards, community presence and safeguarding. This includes attendance, student welfare and health and safety. Finance and staffing are the direct responsibility of the trust board, however the LAC Chair supports the Principal with budget setting and is also involved in the Principals people leadership review process.
In short, LAC's are an integral part of the trust’s governance structure. They are the eyes and ears on the ground, at school level. The LAC supports the trust board by adhering to their core governance functions and by holding the school to account for performance and development. In addition, they support school leaders by acting as their ‘critical friend’.

I was delighted to be asked to be chair of governors for the Local Academy Council. Our aim is for the head of school and staff to develop each child's full potential and to celebrate every achievement.
We are extremely proud of the nurturing ethos of our school and the quality of education that the children receive here due to the planning, hard work of the dedicated staff and the support of the community.

I wanted to be a Governor at The Aspire Centre because I believe that every child deserves to receive a quality education and to have the best possible chances in life. Many children come from disadvantaged backgrounds and for most, school is the only way to fulfil their dreams and aspirations.
I have over 15 years of governance experience and as well as being Chair of Governors for another school, I currently sit on committees for various external agencies. I am qualified to hear complaints, admissions and appeals and to sit on exclusions panels.
I am currently assistant principal at King's Leadership Academy Liverpool. I have over three years of experience in leadership roles and have worked in both mainstream and alternative education. I am also a qualified SENDCo after completing my National Award for Special Educational needs in 2019. I have been a governor at King's Liverpool for over four years and I wish to continue this journey as I feel passionate about supporting young people to reach their full potential in education.
I trained as a Physical Education teacher at Carnegie College; however, most of my professional career was spent playing football and evolving into coaching. Culminating in becoming a National Coach and taking part in the 2018 World Cup.
I was born and raised in Anfield and benefitted greatly from my schooling; hence, the reason for becoming a governor for Aspire. I felt it was time to give back and support young people in their education. I believe if a child is healthy and well educated, it's a platform for a successful adult life.
I have lived in Liverpool all my life and have recently moved to Toxteth. I have a music degree from Liverpool Hope University and then studied Primary Teaching at Edge Hill and achieved a PGCE. After, a couple of years in teaching, I became Circuit Safeguarding Officer for Wirral Methodist Circuit and have recently taken on the role in Southport. I am also on the regional steering group for safeguarding.
For nearly 20 years, I have been involved in the music department at Liverpool Cathedral and I am currently a deputy choir guardian and a deputy lay clerk in the choir. In my spare time, I am a member of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir and enjoy acting and preparing and giving recitals across the North West. It is great to be a governor at Aspire and I look forward to helping the school and its children with its journey forward.
